You probably see and hear about Fitbits everywhere you go. The hype around them is huge, but are they really worth spending that much money on?
We had a few of our members try out Fitbit Charge HR to see what they’re like and whether they really keep you motivated.
Depending on the model, the Fitbit is a watch type band that monitors your daily activity including steps, distances, calories, active minutes and sleep activity. The Fitbit Charge HR offer the additional functions of a sleep pattern monitor, heart rate and distances traveled. The device then syncs to your smart phone and you can keep track of your progress. Here are the pros & cons our members found:
PROS:
- The Fitbit Charge band is made out of a thin, soft rubber so it’s lightweight and hasn’t seemed to cause any irritation.
- It has a small LCD screen which lets you scan your progress at a glance.
- The battery last up to 7 days on average when being used 24×7
- It’s easy to use, so you don’t have to be tech savy
- Monitoring appears to be accurate
- You can challenge other friends, which helps you stay motivated
CONS:
- If your the type of person to work hard and sweat a lot, the Fitbit is not waterproof, so it’s possible to cause water damage.
- On some of the devices it lost it’s sync connection to the smart phone and had to be frequently re-synced.
- The Calorie counter is very generic & can’t be tailored to suit individuals.
- The Charger is very unique and it difficult to replace if lost or damaged.
SHOULD YOU BUY IT?
Spending such a large sum on what is essentially a pedometer with a few extra functions is a difficult proposition. When compared to what else is on the market the FitBit Charge HR definitely has an edge over the other products. Syncing it to your smart phone allows you to challenge yourself, and strive to beat your previous days activity. It’s features alert you to when you’ve unlocked a new badge, which really sparks your need to earn more.
